Participation in the CTA offers many benefits.
Leadership
All members can participate as committee members. Voting members are eligible to become committee chair and board members. Leadership in the CTA allows individuals and their companies to take an active role in determining the future of the industry and how to develop relationships with key industry participants.
Events
Members pay a reduced registration fee to attend the annual Coal Trading Conference and can help determine the programming to be featured at each event. Members may also participate as speakers, panelists and session moderators.
Committees
Both voting and nonvoting members may join standing committees; committee chairs must be voting members. Currently there are three standing committees:
- Education Committee
- New Products Committee
- Master Agreement and Nonperformance Committee
Members may also participate in ad hoc committees, created to address short-term situations or breaking industry developments. For example, an ad hoc committee was developed in 2004 to address the shipping and nondelivery problems. The committee developed recommendations for OTC participants on how best to handle these issues. Annually we also form an annual Nominations Committee, chaired by a board member, to consider candidates for vacancies on the Board of Directors.
