2005 Coal Trading Conference Final Program Set

The final program has been set for the 4th Annual Coal Trading Conference, sponsored by the Coal Trading Association (CTA) and the American Coal Council (ACC). The event will be held on December 15 at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City.

The luncheon keynote speaker will be Dennis Gartman. He is the editor and publisher of The Gartman Letter, a daily newsletter that covers the capital markets and is sent to institutional clients around the world. Gartman frequently appears on CNBC and speaks on capital markets to groups around the world, including The Federal Reserve Bank, the Bundesbank, the ECB, the National Grain Trade Council and others.

The conference program includes three major sessions on these topics:

  • Session I, The Financial Side of Coal Trading
  • Session 2: Global Influences on U.S. Coal Markets
  • Session 3: Transportation Logistics Management—Implications for Coal Trading and Supply

The Coal Trading Conference is the leading annual industry meeting for coal traders. The event attracts a diverse group of more than 125 individuals from across the country, including coal traders, brokers and suppliers, utility senior managers, transportation officials, energy and coal media reporters.

2005 Coal Trading Conference Speakers, Registration Fees Announced

Speakers have been selected for the 4th Annual Coal Trading Conference, sponsored by the Coal Trading Association (CTA) and the American Coal Council (ACC). The event will be held on December 15 at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City.

Featured speakers at the conference will include keynote addresses by Peabody CFO Rick Navarre, incoming chair of the National Coal Council Georgia Nelson, and Dennis Gartman editor of the Gartman Letter. There will be three major sessions, featuring panels of industry leaders focusing on these topics:

  • Session I, The Financial Side of Coal Trading
  • Session 2: Global Influences on U.S. Coal Markets
  • Session 3: Transportation Logistics Management—Implications for Coal Trading and Supply

2005 Coal Trading Conference Set for December 14-15

The Coal Trading Association (CTA) and the American Coal Council (ACC) will hold the 2005 Coal Trading Conference at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City on December 15. The CTA’s annual meeting will be held at the same location on December 14.

The full-day conference is an annual opportunity for industry leaders to hear speakers and panels discuss trends in the marketplace, to improve their understanding of coal trading issues and to facilitate business relationships among the different sectors of the utility-coal business. During the half-day CTA business meeting, members hear reports from officers and committee chairs, and discuss the association’s strategic direction for the coming year.

CTA Elects Four New Board Members

The Coal Trading Association (CTA) has elected four individuals to its Board of Directors. The elections were held May 2 at the association’s 2005 Mid-Year Meeting in Orlando, FL.

Following are the four new directors:

  • Doug Young, Senior Coal Trader, Dominion, Richmond, VA;
  • David James, General Executive, Coal Supply and Emissions, Ameren Energy Fuels and Services Company, St. Louis, MO;
  • Steve Smith, Vice President, Coal, Sempra Energy Trading, Stanford, CT;
  • Rick Pieper, Manager of Pricing Kennecott, Gillette, WY.

Also on the nine-member board are President Brad Speer (Koch Carbon LLC), Vice President Tom Hiemstra (Evolution Markets LLC), Secretary Raphael Pierce (Peabody COALTRADE Inc.), and Directors Jay Gottlieb (NYMEX) and Dave Warnecke (Arch Coal, Inc.).
